Foot, Ankle and Knee Care

We provide some of the most advanced, comprehensive foot, ankle and knee care available today.
We treat many common lower extremity problems including knee pain, knee arthritis, ankle sprains, ankle pain, heel pain, arch pain, Achilles tendinitis, forefoot (ball of foot) pain, neuromas, bunions, hammer toes, and numbness.

Lower extremity problems are addressed quite differently in our clinic. We look for mechanical abnormalities that may be causing the problem.  Below is a list of common mechanical abnormalities that we look for:

• Joint “fixations” of the foot or ankle
Misalignment of the pelvis, hips, knee, ankle and foot
• Abnormal upper body posture
• Anatomical leg deficiency (one leg shorter than the other)
• Muscle imbalances or weaknesses of the core (abdominals), hip, leg or foot

A typical exam of the lower extremities consists of:

• Standing posture analysis
• Gait analysis
• Motion analysis
• Joint ranges of motion
• Balance assessment
• Strength assessment
• X-rays (if necessary)
• Shoe inspection
• Orthotic inspection (if applicable)

Once the source of the problem is determined, an appropriate treatment program can be established.
Treatment may consist of one or more of the following:

• Adjustments to the foot, ankle, knee, hips, or spine to restore joint motion and normal alignment
• Massage therapy to activate muscle weakness/inhibition
• Specific exercises to improve posture, correct alignment and muscle imbalances
• Exercises to improve motor control, balance, foot strength, and rehabilitate "fallen" arches
• Gait retraining

Heel or shoe lift if a short leg is present and orthotics (arch supports) if necessary

Shoes and Foot Problems
Many patients are surprised when we tell them that their shoes may be contributing to their foot, ankle or knee problem. There are different foot types. Each type varies in their shape and positional relationship between the rearfoot (heel) and forefoot (ball of foot). If you place a certain foot type in an incorrect shoe (for that foot type), pain can develop in the foot, knee, hip or even the lower back. Compound this with a shoe that is worn out, poorly constructed or defective, pain or other problems will be waiting to happen.
We understand the important role of footwear in the resolution and prevention of lower extremity problems. As a part of your treatment program, we will inspect your footwear and help guide you into the appropriate footwear for your foot type.
